Although the weather is still uncomfortably warm, we can start dreaming about the beginning of fall, right? What’s not to love about fall? The air is crisp and cool, the sun feels comfortably warm on your skin rather than unbearably hot, and you can finally enjoy favorite hot beverages without feeling like you’re going to burn from the heat from the inside out.
And let’s not forget one of the best parts about the arrival of fall: the clothing. Fall style is admittedly cuter than clothing from any other season. It’s not so cold that your clothes are buried under a dozen layers of coats and scarfs, but it’s just simply more fun to dress in more than one simple layer like during the summer months. It’s time to start preparing for some fall fashion basics. Here are some of my favorites.
Tights and leggings.
One of the best things about fall fashion is that it’s pretty easy to transition your favorite summer pieces into your fall wardrobe. If you have a favorite summer dress you’re not ready to say goodbye to, you can definitely still wear it into the cooler months. Pair it with a pair of tights, cute booties, and a cardigan or jacket, and you instantly have an adorable fall outfit without having to retire your favorite sundress.
Leggings and yoga pants are a staple in any woman’s wardrobe, no matter the season. During the fall, you can easily pair your favorite pair of yoga pants with an oversized sweater and some calf-length boots.
And we can’t forget about the important role that socks play during the beautiful autumn weather. Ankle socks peeking out over the tops of your high tops, knee high socks with combat style boots, and thigh high socks paired with ankle booties. These are all adorable additions to your wardrobe, and a cute way to add a different look to the shoes you already love wearing.
It’s all about layers.
We love fall because we love layers. Even if it’s just a simple dress with a plaid top or chambray shirt tied around your waist, we love layers. Staples for your wardrobe this fall that you’ll need include:
A good leather jacket. Every woman needs a good leather jacket that’s versatile and can be dressed up or down.
A few simple cardigans. When it’s too warm for a jacket but your outfit needs another element, a cardigan is the perfect solution. A black cardigan, white cardigan, and a tan or beige cardigan will start your wardrobe, but don’t let your color selection stop there.
Tights and socks at the same time. Tights are a fun way to add interest to your outfit. Your tights can have patterns or colors that will bring attention to your legs. But if you’re needing a little bit more warmth, add socks over the tights. Thigh high socks over some opaque black tights are cute, but feel free to experiment with different colors and textures of tights with different colors and heights of socks.
Tips to beat the dry air.
Probably one of the worst things about fall is that as the air gets a little bit colder, it also tends to get a little bit drier. The wind can feel like it’s biting, and your cheeks and lips may easily begin to feel chapped. Your skin isn’t the only thing that suffers from the lack of moisture, though. Your hair can easily get dried out in the cold. The best way to combat all of the dry air is by moisturizing like it’s going out of style.
Moisturize your skin every morning and night, and make sure you always have a good quality chapstick in your purse or pocket. You may want to start doing weekly deep conditioning hair treatments, to prevent your hair from becoming brittle and breaking. It can also help to wear hats on occasion, to protect your hair. Don’t let your hair and skin suffer while your wardrobe thrives during the autumn season. Moisturizing and taking care of your skin and hair will pay off when the weather eventually gets warm again, because it will still look and feel great and you won’t have to do damage control to take care of it.
