Mom Protein Shake Blind Taste Test

I am a SUCKER for a good protein or meal replacement shake. I love the ease of just grabbing something on my way out the door or in the middle of my already busy schedule. The ease of a shake is EVERYTHING to me… but I have to tell you, NOT ALL SHAKES ARE CREATED EQUAL! Finding one with the right consistency, the best mixing ability, and the most delicious can be hard. But guess what? I am here to take the guess work out for you. I did a blind taste test of three different Mom style protein drinks, and I am here with my findings. WHO IS READY?!

First. Which three did I test? Profile Nurture, Milk Drunk, and Baby Booster. Ready for the breakdown of what each one offers before I dive into my feelings?!

They have a line for everyday and non pregnant times too.

MILK DRUNK: 17g protein, 4g fiber and 6g of sugar. Gluten/Soy/Dairy Free. ALRIGHT. Now let's get to the NITTY GRITTY. The taste test. I had the vanilla and mocha flavors of all three brands. Adam portioned the drinks for me per the instructions on the bag without me seeing, then I came back into the room, mixed them with my blender bottle and did a blind taste test. I went through and tasted each one individually off film. Then I shared my reactions via video.

VANILLA FIRST.

PROFILE NURTURE:

  • Flavor: 8/10. Mostly because I am just not a huge vanilla person. But of the three it had the best taste. Creamy and rich flavor with a hint of sweet caramel.

  • Consistency: 10/10. I really love the consistency of the profile shakes, their formula makes them seem more of a milk/cream base instead of water.

  • Mixing Ability: 9/10. Super easy to mix, just make sure you are watching edges and mouthpiece so the powder doesn’t build up.

MILK DRUNK:

  • Flavor: 2/10. At first taste I thought it could be good, but the after taste was not preferred at all. This one does have all those helpful ingredients for breast feeding, but I think it compromises making a delicious drink.

  • Consistency: 5/10. The vanilla mixture was a little watery.

  • Mixing Ability: 8/10. It mixed well, but there was a lot of powder specks left on the lid and floating throughout the top of the drink.

BABY BOOSTER:

  • Flavor: 7/10. This one tasted watery. Like a lightly flavored water drink. We followed the directions on the package, but I would recommend more powder/less water to get a stronger flavor. The vanilla taste was fine, just not strong.

  • Consistency: 3/10. This one was watery. It looked like a mucky water instead of a shake.

  • Mixing Ability: 10/10. Super easy to mix.

MOCHA SECOND.

PROFILE NURTURE:

  • Flavor: 8/10. I love the subtle mocha taste this offers. It is there, but it isn’t an overwhelming coffee taste. Just nice and smooth. It didn’t leave any weird aftertaste either which can happen with coffee flavored stuff.

  • Consistency: 10/10. Same as Vanilla. I really love the consistency of the profile shakes, their formula makes them seem more of a milk/cream base instead of water.

  • Mixing Ability: 9/10. Same as Vanilla. Super easy to mix, just make sure you are watching edges and mouthpiece so the powder doesn’t build up.

MILK DRUNK:

  • Flavor: 1/10. Honestly, I knew what was coming before I even got it to my lips. The smell was so strong of the aftertaste from the vanilla. I put a tiny on my tongue and was out. Not a fan of this one.

  • Consistency: 9/10. Mocha was definitely a fuller looking drink. It didn’t look watery at all.

  • Mixing Ability: 8/10. Same as Vanilla. It mixed well, but there was a lot of powder specks left on the lid and floating throughout the top of the drink.

BABY BOOSTER:

  • Flavor: 6/10. The mocha taste was strong but went bitter right away for me. So if you like a stronger and more bitter coffee taste this one would be great for you.

  • Consistency: 7/10. We put more powder in this one and the consistency was a lot better, but I also wonder if that’s why it was more bitter too? I prefer the thicker shake, but not the flavor being so strong.

  • Mixing Ability: 6/10. This one mixed well, but there were huge chunks of powder left and the one that I tasted was not delicious. I am sure adding more powder for the consistency sake threw this one off too.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! Overall, I am a big fan of Profile. It was the best tasting, consistency, and ease of mixing with a blender bottle in my opinion. I have had their regular line and their nurture line and I really enjoy both. Baby Booster was a close second, the measurements just felt a little off. And Milk Drunk was my third choice, but I am sure if you need those extra ingredients to help with breast feeding that would be a great option.

Have you tried any of these brands?! Let me know how your experience compares!
